Re: do you.......
Wed, December 17, 2003 - 2:04 PMI did enjoy the bit about them in the movie "Fast, Cheap and Out of Control". Have you had any first-hand experiences with said creatures? I imagine that hunting them would be illegal in most places. Not to mention the fact that their hides would probably not be worth much as their aesthetic and warmth factors are both pretty low. -

Re: do you.......
Wed, December 17, 2003 - 4:08 PMIn fact I do have experience with the little guys. Every day I walk past a wetlands area that is inhabited by at least one family of Nutria. I've seen seven at one time. I even seen little ones playing king of the hill, which was a little island in the water.
They're cute, in a rat that wants to be a beaver sort of way.

Re: do you.......
Thu, December 18, 2003 - 11:47 AMYes Ralph, but I was talking of the Heterocephalys Glabers, not your household variety Nutria. These are commonly refered to as the hairless mole rat. Very weird creatures that love to role in their own feces and urine (much like myself!).
Please do tell of your encounters with our favorite swamp beasts, the nurtia, as well though! I love to hear about 'em all!
Oh, and if you see a specimen every day, how about bagging one for show and tell purposes? It would be handy to have a live one (not just in jerky form).
